How To Bring Drama To Your Eyes and Lips

When you are getting ready for an average day, you probably have a routine for your makeup. Perhaps you go for a simple look that achieves flawless skin and adds subtle tones to your eyes and lips, or maybe you dash through the basics and then rush out!

But sometimes, your makeup demands drama. A night out on the town, a dramatic face to match a fancy dress party or maybe you just want to play with all this stuff you have – you deserve a chance to let your hair down and really go for it.

While we don’t agree with the very premise of drag queens, one thing you can’t argue with is that they know how to do makeup! In fact, there is a lot to learn from their techniques. In fact, this drag queen makeup tutorial is a huge eyeopener to the potential makeup has. But if you aren’t quite ready to go the whole hog, here’s what you can do to make your makeup more dramatic.

Dramatic Eyes

The eyes are the window to the soul but, to mix metaphors, you can choose what sort of curtains you want to put up. Dramatic eye makeup is ideal for formal occasions where you may not be able to be so flamboyant with your outfit.

The most important thing is that you properly prime your eyes for the best makeup. You don’t want your shadows and lines to break and smudge over time so avoid using oils or moisturizers on your eyelids and do use a primer instead of concealer or foundation.

To build up a dramatic eye, you should work each layer in gently and gradually build up the color and effect you are going for. You should also give your eyebrows some attention to make sure your face feels balanced.

Dramatic Lips

The key to dramatic lips is always color. What might look dramatic on one person’s skin tone can look a bit weird on someone else’s so the getting the balance is key. Working out which colors work for your skin tone is the first step towards a good lip but to make your look more dramatic try brighter or darker tones.

Again, preparation is key. Using a lip liner will help to define your lip shape and prevent accidental smudges. A good tip for darker colors is to use a nude pencil to define your shape. This is because you aren’t as likely to find a matching pencil and you don’t want to end up with a two-toned clown look!

A good rule to follow is that if you are going bold on your eyes, you should leave your lips neutral and vice versa. But rules are made to be broken and as long as you are precise and match your colors, you can wear dramatic lips and eyes together.

Dramatic makeup isn’t just for the red carpet, it is for any event where you want to make an impact. Have a play around and see what suits you. Push the boundaries of your regular routine and you will be surprised just how different you can look!
