Summer is always welcomed with open arms. And why not? The sun is finally out in all its glory and you have endless hours of pool and beach time, and outdoor barbecues ahead of you. It’s also so much fun to be able to wear whatever you want to without the fear of freezing up!

That being said, summer also comes with its fair share of troubles. Think sunburns, sweat, and soaring temperatures that can barely be dealt with. While all of these affect the way you dress and accessorize, you don’t have to let the summer sun dictate!

Check out these useful tips on accessorizing right for the sweltering heat!

scarf

Scarves

Scarves come in a variety of materials. For summer, go for lightweight, breathable fabrics that absorb and wick away sweat. Favor natural fibers like linen, cotton, bamboo and silk, or semi-synthetic blends like viscose or rayon.

Know your scarves: rectangular ones can be worn loose and knotted in multiple ways, squares can be tied around the neck, and infinity or loop scarves can be simply thrown on for instant glamour. Wear a colorful scarf as a turban or bandanna. You can also use one to tie around your updo!

You can wear an infinity scarf by draping it over your shoulders or looping it twice around your neck. Wear with plain t-shirts or summer dresses to keep you warm.

Square scarves can be knotted around your neck or tied around a belt loop. Loop rectangle or large square scarves in various ways around your neck- check this link for ideas. You can also wear a silk or rayon scarf as a belt with a dress or a pair of jeans. Accessorize your outfit with a scarf tied around your wrist or handbag strap.

sunglasses

Sunglasses

Large frames are popular but choose a shape that suits your face. Larger frames also offer greater sun protection around your eyes, preventing wrinkles and sun damage. Make sure oversized sunglasses fit right- if the frame touches your cheeks, the glasses are too big for your face. Avoid sunglasses that are wider than your face or cover your eyebrows.

Women with an oval-shaped face can go for any style of sunglasses; oval-shaped lenses sit well on angular faces, and squares, rectangles, and trapezoids suit round faces. Darker lens colors don’t necessarily mean they offer better sun protection. To protect your eyes, wear sunglasses that are marked ‘UV400’ or ‘100% UV protection’.

Polarized sunglasses reduce glare, which makes them great for driving, boating, and other sports. However, they don’t offer protection from UV rays, so keep the previous tip in mind when purchasing sunglasses.

Jewelry

Summer is all about fresh and bright colors, but don’t overdo it by mixing too many of them. Layer chains and necklaces to add oomph to your outfits. Pick chains of varying lengths and thickness, but don’t wear more than 1-2 thick ones. Wear leather pieces with denim and whites for effortless fashion. Summer calls for a relaxed look, so refrain from wearing chokers!

Mix and match rings; knuckle rings are in fashion and will make your freshly manicured nails look Instagram-worthy! Add some sparkle with metal bands or diamond rings

If you’re planning to wear jewelry to the beach or pool, remember to remove it before going into the water. Also, apply suntan or lotion to your body and wait for your skin to dry completely before putting on jewelry.

Clean your jewelry using warm water and mild soap. Dry completely before storing in a cool, dark place. When it comes to silver jewelry, just wipe clean with a polishing cloth.

hat

Hats

Take the classic baseball or trucker cap and wear it to pep up your casual outfits or dress down yourself. While these caps are great for hiding a bad hair day, don’t be afraid to show off with your favorite team, logo, or city!

A floppy sun hat can pair amazingly well with a casual dress, a maxi skirt, or a pair of jeans. A wide-brim fedora can be paired similarly to a floppy sun hat, but given its structure, the former can help you exude elegance with your otherwise casual outfit!

Add a formal, sophisticated touch with a classic fedora. Pair it with a skater dress for time out with friends, or with a pair of jeans to look fashionable even when running errands. A classic straw hat or a Panama worn with a white button-down and a pair of denim shorts or jeans can take your outfit from basic to summer chic instantly! Panamas can also amp up the heat when worn with a flowy dress.

Don’t try to be too matchy-matchy with your hats. Pair neutrals with bright colors, or dress up a plain Panama or fedora by tying a bright ribbon around the crown. You can even pin on a flower or two for added interest!

Conclusion

Summer joys can quickly make way for discomfort and complaints. Don’t let the heat ruin your fun; be prepared for weather extremes right from the start so you can enjoy a glorious summer!
