There are a number of ways to get beautiful, clean windows. You just need to use the right techniques as well as a good, high-quality cleaner. The windows on your home are how you see the world, so you want them to be invisible rather than dingy.

Clean windows let in the light and also give your home a little added curb appeal. Having clean windows shows that you take pride in your home and that you take good care of it. Dirty windows are not very attractive and will filter in any light that your home gets.

Step 1: Choose the right time of day.

It may sound silly, but the time of day that you clean your windows makes a difference. You want to clean your windows when the sun is not beating on them. If you try to clean your windows when it is the hottest part of the day, your water and cleaning products will evaporate and make it difficult to get a streak-free shine. Instead, clean your windows in the early morning hours or when your windows are in the shade.

Step 2: Invest in the proper tools.

Just like any job, having the proper tools will make the job easier and will also give you the best results. Invest in a good streak-free cleaner, soft cloth, and a squeegee.

You will also need plenty of clean water and a bucket big enough to fit your squeegee into. You may also want a pair of rubber gloves since some cleaners are quite powerful and can cause skin irritation. A scraper can also come n handy for getting hard-to-remove spots from glass. If you are washing windows that are high up on your home, you will also need a ladder.

Invest in a caddy to keep everything in one place and to make it handy to transport all of your tools from window to window as you clean. You may even want a tool belt to wear if you will be on a ladder cleaning windows and don’t want to go up and down the ladder every couple of minutes to grab what you need.

Step 3: Don’t forget the screens.

If your windows have screens, you will want to clean them as well, or your windows will look dirty even if your windows are clean. You can use a lint roller to remove dirt and debris from the screens or remove them and spray them off with a hose.

Step 4: Get into all the grooves.

Dirt and debris tend to accumulate in the tracks, but you can get them clean fairly easily. Pre-soak dirty tracks with a little water and soap mixture and then scrub with an old toothbrush. You can even use a skewer to get into hard-to-reach places. Then wipe out with a cloth.

Step 5: Apply a protectant to keep the dirt away.

After you have cleaned your windows apply a coat of Rain-X on your exterior windows to keep them sparkling longer.

Step 6: Regular cleanings are key.

If you make sure you are cleaning your windows regularly, they will be much easier to clean than trying to cut through years of gunk and built-up dirt. Be sure to clean them in the Spring as well as in the Fall. Doing it these times of the year will make it easier to remember when they need to be done and will ensure that your windows stay nice and clean throughout the year. You can also touch up your windows in-between but plan on doing a deep clean at least a couple of times a year.

Step 7: Get rid of the mold.

If you have stubborn mold on your window sills, you can combat it with a mixture of vinegar and tea tree oil, which has antibacterial properties. Allow penetrating the mold for at least 30 minutes before rinsing. Repeat if necessary.

If you can’t get around to cleaning your windows or you would just rather have someone else do it, you can always call in the professionals. Choose a reputable window cleaning Melbourne company such as Bam Window Cleaning to turn your dingy windows into sparkling glass.
