I don’t drive a minivan or yell at soccer refs or tell the coaches to put my daughter in the game. I’m not the team parent and I don’t bring orange slices for half-time, but I am the most extra soccer mom you’ve eva seen.
How does one achieve such a remarkable title without checking any of the traditional soccer mom boxes? A few months back I was reading the Confessions of a Sports Mama and came across their review of Build a Head. The big heads of Vanessa’s sons were amazing. She had one picture on her review where her kids were holding their big heads and it looked so realistic it was tough to tell whether it was a head on a stick or the kid’s heads.
What better way to show just how proud you are of your young athlete than with one of those “big heads”?!? You mamas know what I’m talking about. Those big heads on a stick that can be spotted at all types of sporting events, from high school basketball games to marathons.
Confessions of a Sports Mama (Vanessa)
I was so incredibly impressed with the quality of Build a Head’s products that I decided to get a big head cutout for all three of my kids. Just like Vanessa’s kids, my kids’ heads turned out amazing. I was so impressed with the quality of the material and the detail of the print but more importantly I love how much my kids love them. I take the heads to every soccer game and I cheer for my kids when they score a goal or when they trip over their own feet. No matter what they do I’m waving their heads high in the air in support of how proud I am of my fantastic kids.
Sometimes my kids act embarrassed that their mom is making a scene but before we leave the house for a game there is no way the heads are being left at home, not because I have such a great memory and won’t forget them but because my kids makes sure that the heads are in the car before any of us are. We’ve actually had one of my kids leave their soccer cleats behind but remember their big head cutouts.
My soccer momdom has made such an impression that the other kids on the team have asked their moms why they don’t have a big head of them made. We now have at least 3 players on each of my kids’ teams that have their own big head cutouts, but it hasn’t stopped there. Other teams have started showing up with big heads for their players. We’ve started a soccer mom revolution (a momolution?) that shifts away from the ridiculous minivanesque stereotypes toward ways that are actually about lifting up and supporting our kids. Cheering for and supporting our kids is just about the most extra soccer mom thing you could do.
