Do you find winding down at the end of the day the most difficult thing to do? Perhaps you get into bed and your mind is still racing and it takes you an age to fall asleep – the advice below will help you to wind down once and for all. All you have to do is get into a routine!
Write Your To Do List For The Next Day
Writing out your to do list for the next day can help you to get anything that’s making you feel stressed out of your head and onto paper. When you wake up in the morning, you’ll barely have to think at all, you’ll just have to start getting on with your list.
Just don’t pack too much onto your list – especially if it’s not essential that you get it done that day. You’ll feel worse at the end of the day if you haven’t ticked everything off.
Wear Blue Light Glasses During The Day
Wearing blue light glasses during the day can help you to avoid things like dry eyes and eye strain from using computers, phones, and the like. Avoid using screens in the evening altogether if you can, as this will help improve your sleep.
Avoid Relying On Caffeine
If you rely on caffeine during the day, try to cut down. Have a cut off point, such as 2pm or 3pm. Drinking caffeine later than that could leave you lying awake for hours, so switch to decaf or tea. Try to limit yourself to two cups – one in the morning, and a pick me up in the afternoon. This should tide you over.
Don’t Exercise Too Close To Bedtime
Exercise in the morning can be an amazing way to feel accomplished and ready for sleep come bedtime, but exercising in the evening could leave you buzzing and staring at the ceiling. It may not be the case for everybody, but just as exercises can help us to feel more alert, too late in the evening isn’t the best time to do it.
Try Supplements
Certain supplements could help to get you into the mood for sleep if you are consistent with them. For example, some people like to take melatonin supplements, while others find that magnesium works well for them. Just try one at a time and give it a chance to work before adding anything else in, or you won’t know what’s working. Herbal tea is also a good idea, while some people may like to try something stronger, such as Shatter. It really is down to the individual and what works for them.
Meditation & Pray
Meditating in the morning and bedtime prayers, even for just 5 minutes can help to calm your mind and your soul.
Take A Bath
A hot bath will relax your muscles, and help to raise your core body temperature, which acts as a trigger to help you fall asleep.
