Having kids and working don’t really go together, do they? Well, this is certainly true if you have younger children but there does come a time when you will have more time and might seriously consider getting back into the workforce. So how do you do it? Here we walk you through some of the considerations you’ll need to have to see if it’s feasible for you to do so.
How Much Time Do You Realistically Have
The first thing to think about is how much time do you realistically have on your hands? If the kids have started to go to school then this sorts one problem to an extent, it frees up a large amount of time in the middle of the day but if they are primary school age then they still are too young to stay home alone.
What Are Your Child-Care Costs
This brings us to child-care costs. These can vary and it depends on where you live and how many children you have. Often schools have after-school clubs which are usually cheaper than private child-care such as nurseries. Or if you have a large enough family employing a nanny can be surprisingly the cheaper option.

Should You Go To College?
What if you are lacking in education, is it possible to go to college at an older age? Yes is the simple answer and with a more mature attitude and life-experience, it may be a better time than when you were younger. You may be nervous and not even know what is an undergraduate degree but read up on it and even attend university open days and it will all become a little clearer.
Lack Of Work Experience
You may feel you lack adequate work experience to get hired as it can be years since you had another job and you may not even have current references. One way to get around this is to do a little bit of voluntary work which gives you both of these and gets you to know new people as well.
Full Time Or Part Time?
Often people are unsure if they can handle full-time work. There is always the option of part-time and this comes in many ways, casual work, or job-sharing is another option where a full-time position is split between two, or more, workers. Many places can even offer family-friendly hours with part-time or home working.
What About Self-Employment
You could always consider starting your own venture. This way you can suit it to your own hours and even start something that you can work from home, keeping your own hours and ensuring that outgoings are kept to a minimum. Types of work can include, crafting and selling, child-care, pet sitting and/or dog walking or various types of design, media or writing work. The downside is that you don’t have a guaranteed income and there is no boss to motivate or guide you through the process.
