Believe it or not, your breast shape actually determines the type of bra that you should be wearing. Being mindful of your shape and correct bra size is important to healthy breast habits. Wearing the wrong bra size or bra, in general, can cause unwanted issues later on with your breasts. Did you know that wearing the wrong bra type can actually cause breast sagging later on in life? Yup, it’s true. I bet you want to be a little more cautious when choosing your bra now!
Finding the right fit of a bra is just like choosing your clothes, you need to find the proper fit in order to be comfortable and work through your day properly. It’s the same when choosing your bra, for comfort and safety of your breasts you need to be sure that it is fitting your breasts properly. Knowing how your bra is supposed to fit takes a bit of work, but first defining which type of breast shape you have will make this process much easier.
Understanding that the shape of your breasts depends on many factors is important. Typically the shape and size of your breasts depend on your genetics, ethnicity, weight, age and if you have or have not been pregnant before. There are many different breast shapes but we are going to list the most common. It is very simple to determine which one you fall under.
Standard Breast Shape
This shape is considered standard or “archetypical” because it is the most common breast shape. If you have this breast shape then your breasts may appear to be simply round. This breast shape has an equal amount of breast tissue around the entire breast making it even per se. With this breast type, you can freely wear any bra you desire being that most bras work in this case. You may even notice that most women who have implants in their breasts fall into this category because they come out proportionate.
In this case, you can wear any bra that fits properly but our favorites are a t-shirt bra, wireless bra or a balconette bra.

Asymmetric Breasts
This breast shape is typically in a combination of the other breasts types within the majority of women. Most women have one breast that is larger than the other leaving them asymmetrical or simply, uneven. So, if this is you, you’re not alone and there are many natural remedies that you can follow to fix your uneven breasts. Being that your two breasts are not equal in size this can make it a bit trickier when shopping for bras. Although the size difference should only be slight and almost never an entire cup size, unless you’re nursing! At that point, you’d be shopping for nursing bras though. If you are a woman who is hitting menopause you may start to notice a change in your breasts as well.
You can add a breast enhancer to any bra of your choice if you don’t like any of the options given. Otherwise, the best bras for uneven breasts are a contour cup bra or a classic pushup bra.

Cone-like breast or the “conical breasts”
Although this breast shape is somewhat perky, they tend to have not that much volume up top and point outward. This type of breast tends to do a bit of what we call a “swoop”. This shape is very common within women but most of the time those that have this breast shape have either lost an excessive amount of weight or have breastfed in the past. You may notice when you have this shape of breasts that most bras aren’t completely full in the middle leaving a gap.
With this breast shape, you will want to stick with either a padded or plunge bra.
Downward Breasts
In other words, some may call these sagging breasts. This is one of the most common breast shapes due to mistakes that were made in the past by women. For example, wearing the wrong bra size for many years can cause your breasts to begin to sag later on in life. Other factors that play a role in the downward breasts are simply gravity, genetics, menopause and or previous pregnancies. Due to the lack of collagen in your skin, some women experience this earlier than others. When you wear the wrong bra size or shape for many years your breasts do not have the proper foundation to rest on and end up losing their elasticity very early on.
With this breast shape, we recommend soft cup bras with an underwire, seamless cups or a classic pushup bra.

Small Breasts
This one speaks for itself, these are for my ladies that don’t have as much volume in their breasts as someone with a fuller chest size. There is no set of reasons as to why a woman has small breasts, this is simply the way one is born. You may notice that more athletic women have a smaller chest and that is simply because they have less fat on their bodies. Since breasts are made up of fatty tissue, you may notice that more petite women tend to have smaller breasts. If you have small breasts, you may want to find ways to make them appear larger and finding the proper bra for this will help.
With this breast shape, we recommend a pushup or padded bra.

There are many different options for bras depending on your breast shape, these were just to name a few. Defining your shape and proper bra size is the first most important step before deciding what bra you are going to choose. Some of these breast shapes are more common than others and some are less common, but the good news is, there’s a specific bra type for everyone. It is also best to get properly fitted to be sure that you are not only understanding breast shape but the size of your breasts as well.
