I’m sure that most of us had a specific wardrobe in our pre-baby days. A certain style that was easily recognizable, flattering and one that made us feel good and confident. But once you’ve had a baby, it’s perfectly normal to feel a little lost – especially where style and your clothing options are concerned.
Will you ever fit into those skinny jeans again? What about those crop tops? And my favorite bikini? What should I wear when it gets hot out? What will look flattering on me? How do I hide my loose belly skin? My body shape has changed so much, I no longer feel like me!
These are the questions and statements that are all too familiar when new moms are faced with a whole wardrobe of clothes that are either impractical for life with a little one or just don’t fit right anymore. Add into that trying to tackle sleep deprivation and you have a recipe for some serious postpartum depression!
But, don’t worry. Here I’ve gathered a few hints and tips of how you can rediscover fashion after baby and reform your personal style as a new mom. And always remember – you’re beautiful no matter what.
Accessories
Accessories are now your new best friend if you are seeking fashion after baby. From statement necklaces to stylish thick framed glasses, accessories can give any outfit a serious lift. And even drastically change it. If you’re not prepared to buy new pieces yet then don’t worry, you can still treat yourself to some statement accessories which will perfectly compliment even the simplest of outfits. Gorgeous wristwear, statement earrings, a large handbag (perfect for baby items too) scarves, and even belts. The possibilities and combinations are endless.
Purge Your Closet
If you really want fashion after baby, now is the time to be ruthless. Go through your wardrobe and decide what you’re realistically going to wear again. Forget those size 4 low rise jeans – they’re only going to taunt you for months (possibly years on end). That mini skirt? Yeah, go head and toss that too. Anything that you no longer love or look good in should be sold or donated. Of course, it’s sensible to put aside items that might not fit into your lifestyle right now, but you may need again. So things like crisp white blouses, formal wear, and high heels can always be put into storage.
Repurpose Old Pieces
That beautiful, button-down shirt that you used to wear tucked into jeans? Team it with leggings and it could make the perfect breastfeeding shirt layered on top of a nursing tank. Those old work blazers? Pair them with your jeans and nursing shirt combination for a smart/casual look for running errands. Fashion after baby is easier than you think!
Try New Trends

High-waisted jeans are a huge trend right now and new moms everywhere are rejoicing! High waisted jeans are so forgiving on most postpartum body shapes as they hide that extra belly skin and muffin tops with ease.
Another popular summer 2019 trend is patterned maxi dresses which are easy to nurse in and great for hiding stains (and extra baby weight!). Pair cute patterned maxi dresses or jumpsuits in fun prints with a denim jacket for a go-to look that is perfect for busy moms. Jumpsuits an rompers are the ideal mom uniform for fashion after baby.
See what feels comfortable, is practical and makes you feel good. Don’t be afraid to check out some mom vloggers or celebrity fashion and copy their styles too!
Do It For You!
You might be tempted to think that there’s no point to trying, as only the baby will see you. However, it’s actually good for your mental health to make an effort, get dressed, feel good and get out and about. Fashion after baby is possible, you just need to accept your new body and learn to love the skin you’re in! Your body did an amazing thing – it brought a new human being into the world that wasn’t there before. Give yourself some credit, mama, you’re amazing!
