3 Unconventional Exercises You Need to Try

The word ‘exercise’ often fills the mind with despair, jumping straight to the idea of sweating it out in the gym, surrounded by fitness fanatics who make running 10K look like a stroll in the park. If you’re anything like me and have discovered that 6 AM jogs are no fun at all (seriously, who actually enjoys them!?), then do not fear.

I have put together some different, unconventional exercises that are more entertaining and still a great way to get in shape this summer!

Yogalates

No, that isn’t a made up word (I promise). Yogalates is a real form of exercise that combines the flexibility side of yoga with the strength training of Pilates, to create the ultimate exercise! Yogalates is one of those unconventional exercises that is fun all the while training your core muscles. It’s important to focus on your core muscles at the same time as working the rest of your body, especially if you’ve given birth. Not only is yogalates fun, but it can help you tone up and burn calories. It has become increasingly popular over recent years in the US, meaning there are many trained yogalates instructors and classes available.

Roller Skating

Who doesn’t love roller skating?! It’s one of those unconventional exercises that is often overlooked and likely never even crossed your mind that this is a great form of exercise that you can try out. Not only is this so much fun, but it is a super affordable sporting activity! All you need is a pair of skates, which are definitely more affordable than a monthly gym membership.

But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t give it a try. Pole fitness is more popular than you may realize, and there are many pole classes and schools available.

One of the great things about unconventional exercises like pole fitness is that anyone can do it, as there are many beginner classes available that start right with the basics, meaning you can work your way up as your strength and flexibility improve.
